about

My personal relationship with Taking Back Sunday can be narrowed down to a single show I attended over ten years ago. It was a show in which TBS, Finch, Boxcar Racer and H20 all played together at Cox Arena in downtown San Diego. As a fan of the scene you really can’t do much better than that. I remember my friends and I were so close to the arena speaker stacks that we suffered from tinnitus for close to two straight days after the show. It probably explains some of my problems now-a-days. It also explains the fondness I formed for the band.

Anyway, there’s no pretentious reason behind this particular compilation. In fact, I went for the simplest approach possible. I had several fans of the series choose from a list of bands that I love, and that process resulted in the selection of Taking Back Sunday. The next step involved approaching artists that I know kick ass. I opted to avoid going with a list of uber prominent bands because that approach just never works out. I usually just get burnt in some manner and inevitably find myself becoming increasingly jaded with the industry. It seems the more notoriety a band has, the more they feel compelled to not follow through on their promises. I’ve been let down far too many times to have a band like Taking Back Sunday disgraced in that way, and I’ve done this dance way too many times to continually get ripped off. That’s why I only went with artists that I know can bring it. I rather have a band that will perform a track that I will undoubtedly remember and love than an overrated name that mails it in, and that’s exactly what I went for, so enjoy what I consider to be the most satisfying tribute I’ve put together yet. I hope you agree.
