I have a feeling this version of Radio will stir some serious emotions in Alkaline Trio fans that are both positive and negative. The poppy vocals are the polar opposite of Matt Skibba's gritty heartfelt screams, so those expecting a similar version will be understandably upset. But what I wanted out of this project was for bands to create their own interpretations of various Alkaline Trio songs based on the impact the original songs had on them and ultimately to re-create and manifest those feelings and that emotion musically. With that creational approach in mind, Weatherstar manages to re-create the song with a sense of sadness with a glimmer of hope rather than an angry hopelessness that the original instills in listeners. It may lessen the impact of the song, and will never be as epic as the original, but it creates a new experience and a definite change of pace.
